Bungee Jumping in Cairns by

Journal Notes

Bungee jumping was the last thing on my list….never had any interest in doing it. The thought scared the living daylights out of me and I thought there were so many other cool adventures I could do such as skydive and snowboarding. But then I got a job as a tour guide and part of the tour was Bungee Jumping. Yes that means I got all the free bungee jumps I wanted. I still had no plans to Bungee jump. And then on my tour guide training (which was me and 16 guys – very male dominated industry) the trainer, turned to me and told me to jump for my job. Yes truth be told if I didn’t do the jump then I wouldn’t get the job. I had already done 8 weeks training – it would be a waste not to do it. The reason I had to jump is that you need to encourage your guests on tour, and yes you do that by jumping.
Ok so I nervously walked up the stairs which seemed to take hours, I was feeling sick and nauseas. They strapped me in and counted me down. I didn’t jump. The guy operating the bungee slowly talked to me, telling me to not look down but just focus on the water and mountain views out in front of me. He kind of talked me into a trance. Then he counted down and I jumped. Let me tell you it was nowhere near as bad as I thought. In fact it was one of the best things I ever did. I have since done over 100 Bungee jumps and I love it.

The first time I jumped left me feeling on a high for about three days. It was a mixture of adrenalin running through my veins and a sense of accomplishment - I overcame one of my fears. I would even go as far as saying for me my first Bungee Jump was almost a spiritual experience – it brought me a little closer to understanding myself better. If you have been putting of Bungee Jumping – just go do it – you will not regret it.
