Bungee Jumping in Cairns was Scary. I won’t do it again! by

Journal Notes

I can still remember that moment, standing on the ledge, about to jump off. I was scared. And I’m not ashamed to admit that. I was about to jump from a platform 50 meters about the ground, at a little adventure park in Cairns, Australia. Rope was tied to my legs and there were other soon-to-be-bungee-jumpers behind me, anxiously waiting their turn. A camera was eying me too from across the open expanse of space I would be jumping into. I was on show. And I couldn’t back down now. I took one look at the camera, smiled, and then jumped.

What a strange feeling – falling through the air. I couldn’t help it but I belted out a loud scream at the top of my lungs. I didn’t want to, but it just came out. This lasted for about 5 seconds or so (seemed much, much longer) until I reached the apex of the drop. At that point my adrenalin was so high that my fear had morphed into excitement and exhilaration. It was all easy from that point forward.

As I was lowered onto the waiting boat on the lake below, the adventure park assistant asked me whether I wanted another go. I said no. Emphatically. Once was definitely enough. It was terrifying. And I’m still scared thinking about it now!
