Journal Notes

After cycling from the town of New Glasgow in Nova Scotia, the Canada Olympics Star Clara Hughes will arrive in Port Hawkesbury at 5 p.m. for a greeting event that will be held at yet another BMO bank branch.

She will be expecting hundreds of fans for this welcoming, just as she has happily received them at all of her previous BMO stops. Clara Hughes will only have a few minutes with these fans though, as she will have to get ready for another mental health special event an hour and a half later, hence starting at 6:30 p.m.

This Bell Let’s Talk conference hosted by the Champion athlete will take place the Port Hawkesbury Community Civic Center. Here, Clara will share her story about mental health issues and be open to answering questions from the media and general public. Tickets are 10 dollars and proceeds will go to the Youth Center Advisor Committee that deals with youth suffering from mental wellness problems.

The town of Port Hawkesbury only has a total population of 3,300 and an area of 430 km2. The town was originally named the Ship Harbour and is fittingly located near the edge of the maritime province of Nova Scotia.

The town has many different basic amenities and special areas with tourist attractions too! The civic center that Clara Hughes will be visiting is the heart of sport and recreation in the town, but it is also home to several swimming pools, gyms, sport centers and workout services. Thanks to this diverse selection of sport buildings, the town also offers a variety of programs and camps throughout the year for youth and adults.

After this stop, Clara Hughes and her Big Ride Cycling Team will head to the Nova Scotia community of Sydney.
