Clara Hughes in Cornwall - One City, Two Schools by

Journal Notes

Clara Hughes will visit two schools when she arrives in Cornwall, Ontario. The first will be the Holy Trinity Catholic High School, and the second, the Akwesasne Mohawk School. Her first visit will be at 1:45 p.m. and the second at 7 p.m.

At Holy Trinity, Clara will spend an hour with Jimmy Malyon, Grant Winchester and Bruce Ciccarelli. This conference will put less emphasis on the negative and include several group activities to demonstrate the importance of teamwork to reduce the stigma associated with mental health issues. The workshop will include yoga, zumba, mini-volleyball competitions and many other activities. The main event will be followed by a free musical performance and dinner. Students of the school will participate in activities throughout the day leading up to this special visit. These activities have been organized and will be led by Hailey Dickson and her leadership class.

After this Community visit, Clara will travel to the Akwesasne Mohawk School where she will join the community champion of the city, Mr. Wilfred James Bay. He is the leader of government support responsible for Akwesasne Mohawk Educational Counselling. This conference will be a community question and answer period. Clara will be open to share all kinds of ideas and personal history at the workshop before her big departure for the province of Quebec.

Between the two visits, Clara will have plenty of time to talk to supporters in the community and visit historical and tourist places. Cornwall is known for its aquatic complexes, arts and theatre centers, Upper Canada Village, Raisin River Heritage Centre and the shopping center of Cornwall Square.
