Clara Hughes’ second stop in Nanaimo, British Columbia, Canada, in partnership with the Canadian Men by

Journal Notes

The city of Nanaimo will be the second stop British Columbia and just like many other events hosted by the summer and winter Olympics skater and cycling athlete, Clara Hughes will be the keynote speaker at an evening event and dinner in partnership with the Canadian Mental Health Association (CMHA).

For her second stop in British Columbia, the team of cycling champions will present their views and stories about Mental Health and Sports in the beautiful city of Nanaimo on May 16th. This British Columbian city will greet Clara late in the afternoon but due to her important evening event that starts fairly early, Clara has not scheduled an official greet for this stop on her Big Ride, cycling across Canada.

The social event will be held from 5:30 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. by Clara and the Mid-Island Branch of the CMHA. The event will not be held at the actual branch but at the Beban Park Social Center to accommodate as many people as possible. Tickets will be $10 per person or groups of 8 can reserve their table of 8 in advance for $80. 400 tickets were available for this event and Clara Hughes expects to meet even more outside of the social center before and after the main event and diner.

Something very interesting that I really enjoyed about this venue of champions is that they have something called the “Angel Clause”. If a member of a community cannot afford a ticket for whatever reason, they can ask for help from this Angel Clause. When buying a ticket, participants are asked if they would like to give money towards this Angel Clause to help all other members of this glorious community.
