Cruising Europe: Overseas Travel by Bike! by

Journal Notes

Are you an adventure traveller? What is your definition of adventure? To be camel riding across the Sahara, rock climbing in the Andes, or kayaking through the Amazon? Whatever your definition, I found mine in bicycle touring across Western Europe.

I was at the beginning of my 6 month, self led euro-trip when the thought came to mind to give travelling by bike a red-hot go. After all, I had no plans, and the freedom to adjust as necessary was vital in my ability to take to travel on two wheels. It started with an idea, progressed to a German bicycle shop, and ended in a 2 month adventure covering Luxembourg, Belgium and France, ending only because of cold weather that made riding unbearable. The sights, sounds, smells and people that I met along the way, made for a journey that really was priceless (to use the Mastercard pun). It really is the best way to travel. It allows you to truely absorb your surroundings because of the slow pace, and to indulge your senses in the delights that pop up along the roadside. This may or may not include almost every artisan bakery you can find with freshly baked goods to fuel the machine that is your body!

Cruising Europe by bike. I can vouch that this is a method of travel that is much easier than you think. How to know?Take the plunge and give it a try!
