Laguna: Best Beach in California by

Journal Notes

I have to say that the best beach in California is Laguna. Growing up in Southern California, going to the beach is basically my life during summer. Because of this, I've been able to try out quite a few, and I fell in love with Laguna immediately the first time I ever went there.
First of all the shopping. Right across the street are blocks of some of the cutest stores I have ever seen. It's mostly independent boutiques, so it's a great place to find unique clothes. Then the food. If you walk past Nick's, you'll find a charming alley lined with sweet shops. At the end of this alley is the best Gelato place ever. Period. A trip to Laguna isn't complete without stopping by for a scoop, or two, or three. Lastly the beach itself! If you walk along far enough there is a little secluded area created by two large rock formations. The only danger is that when the tide comes in, you have to get in the water to get out, so you have to keep an eye on it if you don't want to get wet. There are also tide pools full of beautiful creatures, I even managed to get an underwater picture of one of them. Miraculously, even though it's one of the best beaches, I've never been there when it's crowded. Most of the kids stick to Huntington for the sort of "party" atmosphere, leaving Laguna to the few of us who just want a relaxing day.
