Two Great Stops in Prince Edward Island for Clara Hughes and her Big Ride Team by

Journal Notes

After two great stops in the province of Prince Edward Island over the space of three days, Clara Hughes and her Big Ride Team saw the island from one end to the other. Starting on the North-West side of the island, Clara visited the city of Summerside on April 11th. She had travelled 105 kilometers from Moncton to get there and experienced 5 degree temperatures.

After Summerside, she then travelled down east in the center of the island to arrive in the Capital City of Charlottetown. She covered 62 kilometers to get there. Here Clara would then stay in this city of PEI City for an extra resting day on April 13th.

Although she did not visit the Eastern side of the province on any official stops, she did take the time to tour the island on her resting day by bike and by the means of her Big Ride Tour Bus with the rest of her team.

Clara arrived at the Atlantic superstore on April 11th in Summerside for a welcoming event at about 4 PM. Afterwards she cycled over to the Summerside Legion for a special nighttime event in the heart of the city. She hosted a gala, dinner and live auction at this location from 6:30 p.m. to 9:30 p.m. that was called The Canadian Mental Health Gala as it was also hosted in part by this organization.

After a short rest, Clara Hughes and the Big Ride Team cycled to Charlottetown where she was welcomed at the Founder’s Hall for a special greeting. She then hosted a second version of the Gala that she had done the previous night with the same title, but this time held at the Delta Charlottetown. This is an amazing venue and I have visited it twice in the past for other special events.
